Vehicle Inspections

Driving an unregistered vehicle is a serious offence that can have far-reaching and catastrophic consequences. It’s a scary thought when you think about what could happen if your vehicle is unregistered.

Making sure cars are roadworthy is a big part of the registration system. It’s also about protecting people – every vehicle must be registered to be covered by compulsory third party insurance. This insurance makes sure that everyone is covered for personal injury if someone is hurt in a crash.

Here’s the rundown on what the different road-worthiness inspections, and how to make sure you’re covered.

LPG and CNG motor vehicle registration

If you have converted your vehicle to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) or you are renewing registration for a vehicle that uses LPG or CNG, you are required to have an annual inspection. This inspection needs to be done by an accredited gas fitter who will then issue you with a gas certificate.

Pre-purchase Vehicle Inspection

This is a fully comprehensive inspection report which includes a complete check of the vehicle.

The inspection involves a thorough jacked up examination of all mechanical components and also the bodywork, paintwork and under-structure, for evidence of any damage or unsatisfactory repair work.

The interior and electrical components are checked and the vehicle’s electronic control unit checked for any fault codes followed by a road test. If you are buying a second hand car and don't want to be stuck with a lemon then why not give us a call today!

Roads and Maritime Services maintains inspection and certification schemes to make sure that all vehicles meet minimum safety requirements. Most vehicles require a safety check before you can renew registration.

This is a safety report that gets sent to the RMS electronically. BY doing so it allows you to renew your Rego online or by phone. You must visit an e-Safety Check Inspection Station to get your e-Safety Check.

This is a safety inspection report that proves your car is roadworthy. All vehicles more than five years old require a safety inspection as a condition of registration renewal.

Your registration renewal notice will advise you if your vehicle needs an inspection. To get this done, you need to take your vehicle to an Authorised Inspection Station (AIS). If your cars registration is due and its more then five years old, call The Gas Man to make a booking or if driving past simply drop in an see us and we might be able to do this on the spot for you.

White Slip

An inspection report rejection slip. It details the repairs required before a vehicle can be registered. Once the repairs are carried out and you have the vehicle re-inspected, the vehicle will receive a pink or blue slip.

Driving an unregistered vehicle attracts on-the-spot fines ($1007 for driving uninsured and unregistered) and four demerit points. If the matter goes to court, the court can impose fines of up to $2200 for driving unregistered and $5500 for driving uninsured
